In the winter, do your students need a fun way to practice oral language, reading, and writing skills? Use these materials to help students read or listen, speak and write about winter foods and drinks. The pictures are helpful for ELLs and emergent writers.

Picture Cards

Students sequence the cards and then tell how to make the winter foods. Foods and drinks included are: hot chocolate, tamales, chicken noodle soup, and macaroni and cheese. The picture cards come in color and black and white.

Reading Sheets

Each food comes with two direction sheets in color and black and white. Please note that these are not complete recipes (quantities are not included). You can also use these sheets for listing practice if the text is too challenging for students.

Graphic Organizers

Each food comes with two differentiated graphic organizers. They come with or without the ingredients labeled.

Writing Pages

Each set of food has a writing page for students to produce a longer writing piece.

Sequencing

A sequencing mat is included so that students can place picture cards of the steps to match each food.

Sentence Frames

There are simple sentence frames included to help students practice basic food vocabulary and sentences. This is great practice for newcomers.
