Mood and Tone Task Card Bundle

Do your students need a visual way to practice mood and tone? This bundle of task cards will help students identify mood and tone. They are a great introduction for ELLs since students can use the pictures to practice this complex skill before moving on to text.

Set 1: The mood task cards have pictures of settings and characters. Students identify what mood the setting or character helps to create. There are 20 cards at each level. For tone there are short reading passages. Students identify what the author's tone is.

Set 2: There are a total of 32 task cards with color pictures in 3 different levels. Students identify the mood of a picture with or without multiple-choice options. They also choose the passage that has a tone that best matches the mood of the picture. The same photographs are used for each set of task cards to allow for easy differentiation.

Illustrated Vocabulary Sheet

There is a visual list of vocabulary words that can be used to describe the mood and the author's tone. Each mood listed has at least one task card that goes with it.

Recording Sheets

There are recording sheets and a writing page that go with the task cards.
