Short Vowel Sentence Strips Newcomer Phonics

Do you work with elementary newcomer students? Do they need additional practice reading sentences that follow a specific sequence of phonics patterns? Do you ELLs need picture support to help them learn the meaning of new vocabulary words while they are also practicing their decoding skills? Then this set of short vowel sentence strips is just what you need.

The images used are appropriate for upper elementary students. Each sentence strip only has one sentence. This makes them helpful for emergent readers that are overwelmed with large chunks of text.

Scope & Sequence

The sentence strips follow the sequence of: m a t p n s, i g, c k d, o r h, b l e, f j w, q u z, v y x, sh ch th, wh tch ng ff ll ss zz

There are 12 sentences for each set of letters or letter combinations, for a total of 96 sentences. Each sentence strip show the new letters features in the sentence along with previously introduced letters.
